The normal temperatures in southern New Jersey range from 25°F in January to 85°F in July. The average annual precipitation is 42”. Approximately 21” of snow falls each year.

Southern New Jersey is well known for the Pine Barrens, which exist within the New Jersey Pinelands National Reserve. Created in 1978, this was the first National Reserve in the US. It contains 1.1 million acres and takes up 22% of the land area of New Jersey. The Pinelands National Reserve comprises seven New Jersey counties, and includes three state forests. Almost all of the New Jersey cranberry and blueberry crops are produced in the Pine Barrens.

Operated by the township of Cherry Hill, New Jersey is the Barclay Farmstead Gardens where visitors are able to observe and participate in the agrarian lifestyle of the early 1800’s common in rural southern New Jersey. The farmhouse and gardens are situated on a 32 acre property, listed on the National Registers of Historic Places. Plant A Patch community garden plots are maintained and harvested by approximately 100 local residents.

The Camden Children’s Garden is located in Camden, New Jersey and situated next to the New Jersey Adventure Aquarium on 4 acres. With outdoor and indoor exhibits, children learn about gardens and nature at horticultural and themed gardens such as the Butterfly House, Dinosaur Garden and the tropical Plaza de Aibonito garden.
